What you'll
see on your
Seattle Seaplanes "Flightseeing Tour"
- Your departure point, Lake
Union, is the most central of Seattle's many
bodies of water. The shores of the lake are home
to many pleasure boats, commercial vessels, and
numerous house boats.
- The University of
Washington Covers 680 acres, has a student
population of about 40,000, and is the
sixth-largest community in the state.
- Lake Washington
separates Seattle and Bellevue. It is a
fresh-water lake fed by three major rivers. It's
26 miles long and up to six miles wide. the lake
has over 100 miles of shoreline touching nine
different cities.
- The Evergreen Point
Floating Bridge on highway 520 is the longest
of its type in the world, stretching 7,518 feet.
- The city of Bellevue is
now the fourth-largest city in Washington state,
and one of the fastest-growing in the country.
Over 85,0000 residents inhabit 25 square miles.
Bellevue is home to more than 70 manufacturers.
And in Downtown Seattle:
- Safeco Field is the
home of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks, and
hosts concerts and trade shows. It seats 74,000
fans. Look just south of Safeco Field and see the
site for the New! Mariners Stadium.
- The Columbia Seafirst Tower
is 76 stories high, and reigns as the tallest
building west of Dallas, Texas.
- The Seattle Center is
marked by the Space Needle and was built
for the 1962 World's Fair. The center also
includes the Pacific Science Center, the Opera
House, and the Key Arena.
- Elliott Bay is the port
formerly used by most of the commercial shipping
vessels in the area. Now the water front houses
many wonderful shops and restaurants.
- Magnolia was named by
explorer Captain Vancouver for the beautiful
flowering trees seen on the bluff overlooking the
bay. the tree turned out to be madronas, but the
name stuck.
